Malaysia will continue to strengthen further the good defence relations with Indonesia in the interest of both nations, Bernama reported, citing Defence Minister, Mohamad Sabu.
The existing ties should be enhanced in all aspects of defence including those involving the relations of defence companies of the two countries, he said.
“The participation of Malaysia in the ‘Indo Defence 2018’ exhibition for example proved the commitment of Malaysia to boost the existing relations.
“It is also hoped Malaysia’s participation will attract the participation of defence companies to join Lima’19 (2019 Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition),” he said.
Mohamad was speaking at the launch of the Malaysian Pavilion in conjunction with Indo Defence 2018 at Jakarta International Expo at Kemayoran here.
This is the fourth time Malaysia is participating in the biennial event after making a debut in 2012.
The Malaysian Pavilion is put up by the Defence Ministry with the cooperation of the Malaysian Industry for Defence Enforcement and Security (MIDES) as well as EN Projects (M) Sdn Bhd, DSA Exhibition & Conference Sdn Bhd, Deftech, Sapura, Westar, Systematic Aviation, Aerospace Technology Systems Corporation and Advanced Defence Systems.
Meanwhile EN Projects (M) Sdn Bhd chairman Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor said their participation in the exhibition was to promote LIMA’19 which would be held from March 26 to 30 2019.
“So far almost 90 per cent of the 325 group of defence companies had confirmed their participation.
“Four aerobatic teams from Russia, South Korea, China and Indonesia have also confirmed coming,” he said.
In this regard, DSA Exhibition & Conference Sdn Bhd chairman, Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin said the Malaysian Pavilion was also to promote DSA 2020 (Defence Services Asia 2020).
“We are starting early to promote DSA 2020, here (Jakarta), as DSA 2020 is very significant with the leadership of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, which is the year for us to achieve developed nation status,” he said.
